Can I know who received my used laptop?
No, we’re sorry, but all recipient families’ information is confidential.

How will the computers be refurbished?
We will have a team of volunteers working in January and February to refurbish the laptops. The process will include a system check, hard drive wipe and installation of educational software.

Can I help with refurbishing computers?
If you are interested in helping out please let us know using our volunteer form.

How will families be selected?
We are consulting with local community organizations to identify families in need, or those new to Canada, including Syrian refugees.

Donations:

Where are donations going?
Donations will help cover the costs of refurbishing the computers, such as adding more RAM, updating graphics cards, batteries, power cords, mice, etc, as needed. Volunteers will be helping refurbish the computers to keep costs down. Donations will also help cover costs for the CodeCrafters course (facility, materials, instructor). Further proceeds will go to delivering Year of Code Waterloo Region programming and campaign costs.

What will the charge on my credit card say?
For donations made through the YoCWR.ca website, the charge will reference Canada Helps and Capacity Canada. Canada Helps is a charitable donation service that processes online transactions for thousands of charities across the country. Capacity Canada is the Year of Code Waterloo Region partner under whom the project resides in order to be able to provide receipts and administrative services.

For donations added to YoCWR Shop orders you will see “Tadco”.

When will I receive my donation receipt?
Receipts for amounts of $25 and up will be mailed out in February 2016.
